IPNEWS: Simeon Freeman, political leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) and prominent businessman, has announced the procurement of over 25 American-made school buses to address the acute transportation crisis in Liberia.

This private-sector intervention is designed to provide relief for commuters facing rising transport fares and a severe shortage of public buses.

The initiative consists of more than 25 (specifically cited as 26) 30-seater buses, locally referred to as “Killer-being” buses.

The vehicles will be equipped with modern access-control technology to streamline boarding and exiting while minimizing financial leakages in revenue collection.

The buses are intended for deployment on major routes to lower transport costs, particularly for low-income commuters.

Freeman launched this project as a “solutions-driven” alternative to the current administration, which he recently graded 20/100 for its performance in handling the cost of living and public services.

This move follows long-standing issues with the Liberia National Transit Authority (NTA), which has struggled with operational shortages that have significantly impacted students and workers in Monrovia. While the initiative has been praised by many as a significant private contribution, some critics have called for more details regarding rollout timelines, exact pricing, and long-term management.
