—— President Hails Gesture as Boost to National Reconciliation; Son of Late President Doe Launches SKD Legacy Foundation

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Tuesday expressed deep gratitude after receiving the prestigious 2025 Samuel Kanyon Doe Peace and Progress Humanitarian Award, presented by Mr. Teddy Kimba Doe, son of the late former President Samuel Kanyon Doe.

The ceremony took place at the President’s Rehab offices in Paynesville, marking a symbolic moment that blended national history, reconciliation, and renewed civic commitment.

President Boakai described the honor as a powerful contribution to Liberia’s collective healing process. He praised the Samuel Kanyon Doe Legacy Foundation for its role in promoting unity, peacebuilding, and constructive national dialogue, stating that such gestures strengthen the nation’s resolve to move beyond past divisions.

Reflecting on his years of service during the People’s Redemption Council (PRC) era, President Boakai recalled moments of camaraderie and professional interaction with the late President Doe while serving as Minister of Agriculture. He also highlighted the dignified reburial of the late President as a significant milestone, not only for the Doe family but also for Liberia’s continued journey toward true reconciliation.

The Liberian Leader commended Mr. Teddy Kimba Doe for his patriotism and commitment to national service. He welcomed the announcement of the formal launch of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Legacy Foundation Liberia, including its upcoming scholarship program at the Grand Gedeh County University in Zwedru—an initiative he said reflects the administration’s broader vision for inclusive growth and youth empowerment.

“As a nation, we move forward when we choose reconciliation over division and service over conflict,” President Boakai said. “This award symbolizes not just recognition of our efforts, but a shared commitment to building a peaceful and united Liberia.”

President Boakai assured the Foundation of his administration’s support as it rolls out humanitarian and educational programs aimed at strengthening national development and uplifting communities across the country. By: Andrew B Weah, 0770637216/0886429103,andrewbweah@gmail.com
