IPNEWS: The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP)–the Ministry – in Charge of ECOWAS Affairs in Liberia along with the ECOWAS Commission is slated to Break Grounds on a Landmark Construction of Joint Border Post Between Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The Government of Liberia through the MFDP and the ECOWAS’ National Office will officially handover a parcel of land to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to commence the construction of a Joint Border Post (JBP) at the Jendema-Bo Waterside Border on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

This strategic infrastructure project is a key flagship project aimed at strengthening regional integration designed to facilitate easy cross-border movements, enhance security, and boost trade between the Republic of Liberia and the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The ceremony will be graced by Her Excellency Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, representing the President of the Commission accompanied by the ECOWAS Ambassador in Liberia, Director of Transport and other staff of ECOWAS Commission.

On the Liberian side, the official groundbreaking will also be graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Augustine Kpehe Nganfuan, the Minister of Public Works, Hon. Roland Layfette Giddings, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Francis Nyumalin, Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority, Hon. James Dorbor Jallah, Chairman of the Land Authority, Hon. Samule F. Kpakio and other members of the Bilateral Joint Border Post Committee.

The event underscores ECOWAS’s commitment to fostering deeper economic and social ties within the region.

The Jendema-Bo JBP has been selected as a highlight project for the upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebrations of ECOWAS, symbolizing the community’s vision for a borderless, integrated, and prosperous West Africa.

The ceremony will formally see the official handing over of the project site to the selected contractors and supervising consultant, marking the transition from planning to physical construction.

The project is a testament to the enduring partnership between ECOWAS, Liberia, and Sierra Leone’s, and is poised to become a vital artery for commerce and trade in the Mano River Union Region.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional political and economic union of currently twelve countries located in West Africa.

Established in 1975, its mission is to promote economic integration across the region and achieve “collective self-sufficiency” for its member states.
