IPNEWS: Liberia has recorded significant progress in governance, transparency, and economic management, according to the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s (MCC) Fiscal Year 2026 Scorecard. The latest report highlights measurable improvements under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., signaling renewed momentum in Liberia’s reform and accountability drive.
The FY2026 Scorecard shows Liberia passing 12 out of 22 indicators, an increase from 11 in the previous fiscal year reflecting steady advancement in areas tied to good governance, rule of law, and economic performance.
Among the key highlights, Liberia successfully passed the “Control of Corruption” and “Government Accountability” indicators two critical benchmarks for MCC Compact eligibility. The country scored 0.09 in Control of Corruption, surpassing the median, while achieving 73% in Government Accountability and an outstanding 98% in Freedom of Information.
“These results demonstrate the administration’s continued commitment to integrity, transparency, and the rule of law,” the report stated, emphasizing the Boakai administration’s efforts to rebuild public trust and strengthen democratic governance.
Liberia also maintained strong performance in Personal Freedom, Property Rights, and Women in the Economy—indicators that underscore the government’s commitment to social inclusion, private sector empowerment, and gender equity.
On the economic front, the country registered notable gains in International Market Access (93%), Market Competitiveness (60%), and Property and Land Rights (67%), pointing to growing investor confidence and a more robust trade environment.
Despite the positive trajectory, the report noted persistent challenges in Natural Resource Protection, Child Health, and Girls’ Primary Education Completion. In response, the government has pledged to address these weaknesses through targeted reforms, increased social spending, and strategic investments in human capital development, as reflected in the FY2026 national budget.
The MCC Scorecard remains a critical tool used by the U.S. Government to evaluate countries’ performance in areas of good governance, economic freedom, and investment in people. Liberia’s continued improvement, observers say, sends a strong message to the international community about the country’s commitment to reform and accountability.
“This year’s Scorecard represents a reaffirmation of Liberia’s dedication to governance reform and economic recovery,” one MCC regional analyst noted. “It positions Liberia as a serious contender for future MCC Compact consideration.”
