—- Says He remains Confident to Defeat Charges Against Him

It has been a while since he appear in public following his indictment by a Special Grand Jury on charges of ‘criminal conspiracy and endangerment’.

On Wednesday, July 16, former Speaker Koffa welcome young minds from Grand Kru and the Southeast, many of whom were visiting Monrovia for the first time.

Former Speaker Koffa lauded the Gbowee Foundation, for exposing the future leaders to new ideas and opportunities that can shape their journey ahead.

“As someone who has walked the path from the Southeast to national service, I was inspired by their energy and ambition. May this visit spark bold dreams and lasting impact.” Former Speaker Koffa stated.

Recently,  a the Grand Jury for Montserrado County  indicted former Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and 14 others in connection with the alleged Capitol arson case.

The indictment was filed before Criminal Court “A” under the jurisdiction of Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie.

    Those indicted include:

Kivi Bah alias “Kaba,” Jerry Pokah alias “Tyrese,” Stephen M. Broh, John Nyanti, Hon. Dixon W. Seboe, J. Fonati Koffa, Patience Bestman, Harrilyn Grace Johnson, Abu B. Kamara, Jacob C. Deebie, Christian Kofa, Amos Kofa, Eric Susay, and Thomas Isaac Etheridge—along with others yet to be identified.

The defendants face multiple charges, including:

    • Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder

    • Criminal Mischief

    • Criminal Conspiracy

    • Criminal Facilitation

    • Criminal Solicitation

    • Release of Destructive Forces

    • Reckless Burning or Exploding

    • Recklessly Endangering Another Person

According to the indictment, the defendants are accused of Arson—classified as a second-degree felony—and additional misdemeanors of the first degree.

The indictment now paves the way for trial proceedings during the August Term of Court before Criminal Court “A.”

At a Thursday hearing, the City Court granted criminal appearance bonds for the defendants. Following this decision, the Clerk of Court was instructed to forward the case minutes to the First Judicial Circuit, Criminal Court “A,” for the attention of Judge Willie.

Ahead of the August term, political pundits are of the view that the accused might just walk free as the indictment may be counter  sufficiently by the defense team.
