—ACKNOWLEDGES GOV’T EFFORTS TO RESOLVING SOME

IPNEWS: The National Health Workers Union of Liberia (NAHWUL) is calling on the government of Liberia to live up to its promises during the October 2023 elections to give Healt Workers and other Health professional just benefits and increased salaries.

In a statement issued over the weekend, the NAHWUL stated that while it acknowledges Government efforts in meeting some of the critical needs of Health workers by taking some positive steps toward addressing our long-standing concerns regarding healthcare workers’ welfare especially as reflected in the January 2025 salary disbursement signifies government’s commitment to its promise of closing salary gaps within the Ministry of Health.

The Health Workers statement als o;so highlighted that While it acknowledge progress, there remain significant concerns that require urgent attention. Reports from our members also indicate that, some workers, particularly non-clinical staff and other cadres have yet to benefit from any salary increment. Others have reported adjustments below their expectations. Alarmingly, a few workers have experienced deductions rather than increments in their salaries.

“We therefore respectfully urge the Government of Liberia to swiftly address these outstanding issues to ensure that all health workers benefit equitably from the promised salary adjustments. Additionally, we call for any forthcoming salary adjustments to be retroactive to January 2025 to fairly compensate those left behind in the initial phase thereby enhancing industrial harmony.
NAHWUL also wishes to remind the government of its commitment to constructing staff hostels in three counties, a project announced by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) for 2025. We anticipate the timely commencement of this project within the first quarter of this year, as it remains vital to improving the living conditions of healthcare workers in the rural areas of country for the promotion of quality public health services.” The National Health Workers statement highlighted

the release further calls on Health worker that were negatively impacted during the government recent adjustment period, to remain patient as negotiation continue with the government to resolve these issues amicably and expeditiously.
