oshua Milton Blahyi (born 30 September 1971), better known as ‘General ButtNaked’, is a Liberian now self-proclaimed evangelical preacher, writer and former warlord best known for his actions during the First Liberian Civil War known as April 6, 1006. . During the conflict, Blahyi led a group of soldiers which fought on the side of the anti-rebel groupUnited Liberiation Movement of Liberia for Democracy (ULIMO) loyal to former RUAL development minister Roosevelt Johnson before converting to Christianity and becoming a pastor in 1996.
Born in the Liberian capital of Monrovia to a Krahn family, Blahyi was handed by his father to several tribal elders who initiated him as a high priest in 1982 at the age of eleven. After Liberian military officer Samuel K Doe staged a coup d’état against President William R. Tolbert in 1980, the new regime employed Blahyi to perform black magic rituals at the presidential palace in Monrovia to help him win the 1985 general election.
In 1989, National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) rebel leader Charles Taylor launched a rebellion against Doe’s regime, sparking a civil war. Blahyi joined ULIMO, a rival militia group, and operated primarily around the Monrovia area. During the conflict, Blahyi and his men, a group of soldiers known as the Naked Base Commandos, fought without clothing and perpetrated numerous atrocities, including child sacrifice and cannibalism.
Blahyi abandoned his life as a warlord and turned to preaching after undergoing a religious conversion in 1996, attributing these actions to receiving a vision of Jesus. In 2008, Blahyi testified at the Liberian Truth and Reconciliation Commission, claiming that his victims numbered at least 20,000 individuals. The public testimony brought mixed reactions and led to international attention, leading Blahyi to be featured in several documentaries.
SA FOR SIAFA Norman little is known about him except for little that he was recruited in early 1991 and was member of the notorious SMALL BOYS’ UNITS SBU, noted for bittering crimes against humility, including war crimes. SIAFA Norman Later join the marine division under the late rebel General Nelson Gaye and begin one of tis commanders in 1992 during the operation Octopus launched by the NPFL to capture and dislodge the former government under LAATE INTERIM PREIDNET Amose C. Sawyer.
Siafa Norman is recorded as being a member of the NPFL Unit that committed the Cater camp massacre when scrolls of woman and children were murdered in cold blood in concession areas of Firestone rubber plantation between DIVISION 18 AND 20.
During the 2023 elections fever, many decried the appearance of General but naked with the Unity Party of president Joseph Boakai.
In 2019, he Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) termed as shameful and heartbreaking to hear former rebels such as Siafa Norman of the disbanded National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL), Ofori Diah of the former Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy(LURD), and others, who callously raided villages in Liberia and murdered thousands of Liberians on flimsy accounts, make threatening statements against the safety of a democratically elected lawmaker while the Liberian government through the Ministry of Justice sits back and watch supinely.
ALJA says President Weah and the Liberian government have the constitutional obligation to defend and protect the lives of all residents of the country including Rep. Kolubah against imminent threats to their wellbeing. The Association urged the President to publicly condemn the former rebels and their recent threat to arrest Rep. Kolubah because failure to do so, would insinuate the government’s sanction of the threat made against him.
At the same time, the Association has lambasted street protesters and social media broadcasters, who are fond of insulting Liberian government officials, especially President George Weah as a means of venting their discontentment about contemporary developments in the country. The Association notes such posture is distasteful; and it defeats the purpose of media advocacy.
ALJA said Liberians have the constitutional rights to assemble peacefully and be heard by their national leaders, but they must do so with civility; adding, “No amount of profanities spewed at President Weah and his public officials are capable of reversing the current trend of happenings in the country. What Liberia needs now is dialogue and peaceful coexistence where the rule of law would be respected by all Liberians regardless of political dispensations”
