IPNEWS: Over the weekend, the people of Foya and neighboring regions warmly welcomed their son, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, to Lofa County. Throngs of jubilant citizens from Bong, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and Nimba counties gathered at the entrance of Unification Park in Voinjama, eager to greet the President as he joined them in celebrating a historic milestone.

The occasion marked the 60th Anniversary of Bong, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and Nimba counties attaining county status, a momentous achievement dating back to 1964. President Boakai, who hails from Lofa County, was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and pride as he arrived to commemorate the shared history and progress of these four counties.

Speaking at the Unification Park on Sunday, December 22, 2024, President Boakai reflected on the significance of the anniversary, emphasizing the importance of unity and development across Liberia. “This celebration is not just about remembering our history but recommitting ourselves to the ideals of progress, inclusivity, and shared prosperity,” he remarked.

The event brought together citizens, local officials, traditional leaders, and government representatives, creating an atmosphere of festivity and reflection. Traditional dances, cultural performances, and a showcase of the counties’ unique heritage underscored the pride and resilience of the communities.

President Boakai also used the platform to highlight his administration’s commitment to fostering equitable development across Liberia, with a focus on infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He called for collective efforts to bridge divides and ensure that all Liberians benefit from the nation’s progress.

The celebration in Foya underscored the enduring ties between President Boakai and his home county, with many residents expressing gratitude for his leadership and dedication to improving the lives of ordinary Liberians.

As Liberia moves forward, the 60th-anniversary celebration serves as a reminder of the country’s rich history and the collective determination of its people to build a more united and prosperous future.
