IPNEWS: ย The House Committee on Hydrocarbon, chaired by Hon. Sam P. Jallah, Representative of Bomi County Electoral District #3, on Wednesday conducted a preliminary investigative hearing into a complaint filed by the Environmental Eyes Consultancy & Advocacy Firm Inc. against Atlas Petroleum International.

The complaint, which had earlier been referred to the Hydrocarbon Committee by Plenary, mandates the Committee to investigate and submit its findings within two weeks.

According to Chairman Jallah, Wednesdayโ€™s engagement served as a preliminary hearing aimed at setting the stage for a more detailed inquiry. He emphasized that the Committee will undertake further scrutiny of the matter to ensure a fair, balanced, and thorough investigation.

Representatives of the complainant organization โ€” Mr. Adama Dempster, Board Chair, and Mr. Matthew Sieh Wisseh, Executive Director โ€” appeared before the Committee to present their case.

The Civil Society Organization (CSO) has called on the Honorable House of Representatives to reject the ratification of Oronto Liberia Limited.

During the session, the Committee requested additional supporting documents from the group and questioned them regarding the authenticity and legitimacy of the evidence submitted as part of their complaint.

Chairman Jallah reaffirmed the Committeeโ€™s commitment to a transparent and accountable process, underscoring that the investigation will be conducted in strict adherence to the Legislatureโ€™s oversight responsibilities.
