Carl Rogers: “Man’s inability to communicate is a result of his failure to listen effectively.”

Lee Iacocca: “Too many people fail to realize that real communication goes in both directions.”

Brené Brown: “If you’re not in the arena also getting your behind kicked, I’m not interested in your feedback.”

Mitt Romney: “Leadership is about taking responsibility, not making excuses.”

Henry Ford: “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”

Bill Gates: “Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can’t lose”. He also notes it is more important to “heed the lessons of failure.”

Eleanor Roosevelt: “Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.”

In the realm of political discourse, particularly in Liberia’s complex and historically tumultuous landscape, the words and actions of influential leaders can wield significant power.

The ruling Unity Party must tread carefully in its public communications, especially regarding the remarks made by prominent figures such as Madam Liberia political Maradona, Mama Dawoh.

This caution is especially pertinent in light of the precedents set during the 2017 elections, when careless public utterances led to profound shifts in political allegiances.

If the Unity Party, founded by Dr. Edward B. Kesselle, is to uphold its cornerstone philosophy of “Love for country first,” it must prioritize the welfare of the people and ensure that its statements resonate with the aspirations and realities of the Liberian populace.

Anything less risks not only the party’s credibility but also the much-needed stability and progress in Liberia’s political future.

To fully understand the significance of responsible public dialogue, one must recognize the historical context of Liberia’s political climate.

The nation has endured decades of conflict, economic strife, and social upheaval.

With such a backdrop, the stakes of political rhetoric are incredibly high.

Past experiences highlight the catastrophic ramifications that can occur when leaders fail to exercise discretion.

The eve of the 2017 elections serves as a pertinent example, where ill-considered statements led to unanticipated shifts in loyalty among political groups and individuals.

In a country like Liberia, where political identities are often intertwined with personal and communal histories, the impact of rhetoric can alter loyalties overnight, destabilizing established political structures.

The Unity Party must heed this caution and align its public statements with the principles that Dr. Kesselle enshrined upon its foundation.

His ideal of prioritizing the nation’s well-being over individual or partisan interests is paramount.

When public figures, including Mama Dawoh, stray from this principle, they not only jeopardize their own standing but also endanger the broader ambitions of the Unity Party.

The party’s representatives must engage in discourse that uplifts and empowers marginalized segments of society, rather than indulging in rhetoric that serves momentary interests or sensationalism.

Moreover, it is essential to recognize the societal dynamics at play in Liberia; the electorate comprises a diverse population with wide-ranging socio-economic conditions.

The downtrodden, in particular, are vulnerable to messages that fail to address their day-to-day struggles.

When policies and discussions are centered around abstract political ideals or personal grievances, they alienate those who need representation the most.

The Unity Party must remember that its goal is governance “by the people, for the people, and with the people.”

This encounter and engagement with the citizenry is what can transform political rhetoric from mere noise into a constructive dialogue aimed at national healing and progress.

Comparing political statements devoid of substance to the “voice of a small barking dog at the movements of lions” vividly illustrates the futility of such utterances in the grander scheme of national development.

The CDC government of President George Weah can attest. They were warned but failed to listen, and 2023 was the result of that failure. “Weah warns against taking the path of Ellen’s bad policies.”

    Source:https://frontpageafricaonline.com/news/2016news/fallah-warns-pres-weah-against-taking-path-of-ellen-s-bad-policies/:

Indeed, there will always be individuals who prioritize personal gain over collective advancement, using rhetoric to serve self-serving ends.

The Unity Party and Liberia at large must cultivate a political environment where discourse is not merely a platform for personal ambition but rather a shared endeavor that uplifts the nation.

Leaders ought to embrace a collaborative approach that mitigates divisiveness and instead nourishes a united agenda focused on addressing pressing issues such as poverty, education, health care, sanitation, and infrastructure.

This call for responsible discourse is not merely a matter of personal morality among politicians; it is a fundamental necessity for the nation’s health.

The legacy of Liberia’s tumultuous past teaches us that rhetoric can be as potent as action.

In moments of political uncertainty, careful speech can either solidify progress or accelerate deterioration.

The Unity Party is uniquely positioned to seize this opportunity to craft a message of hope and unity that appeals to all Liberians, regardless of their socio-economic status or political affiliations.

Furthermore, public figures must recognize the weight of their influence.

Madam Dawoh- Madam Liberia’s Political Maradona, as a prominent political figure, holds significant sway over public opinion.

Her words can inspire, incite, or instigate divisions. It is incumbent upon her and others within the Unity Party to be aware of the implications of their statements.

They should strive to foster an environment where transparency and accountability reign, and where criticism and debate are encouraged constructively rather than through vitriol and division.

Liberians are eager for change and leaders who embody integrity and compassion.

The Unity Party can lead this change, but it must actively work to ensure that its messages resonate with the people it seeks to represent.

This requires a commitment to listening and responding to the voices of the Liberian populace, particularly the marginalized and disenfranchised.

Such engagement is crucial, as it establishes a dialogue that not only informs leadership decisions but also empowers citizens to participate meaningfully in the political process.

This empowerment of the citizenry directly links back to the core tenets established by Dr. Kesselle: a love for the country(nation) must manifest in actions that positively impact its citizens.

Political speech must evolve beyond superficial declarations to become a mechanism that serves the common good.

A commitment to genuine positive change will ultimately distinguish the Unity Party from those who may seek to twist national progress for their own agenda.

As Liberia navigates its path toward more stable and equitable governance, the importance of responsible public discourse can not be embroidered.

The Unity Party, with its rich heritage rooted in the principles of love for the nation(country) and social responsibility, has a unique opportunity to guide Liberia’s political future.

By prioritizing the needs and voices of the Liberian people, and practicing thoughtful, constructive dialogue, the Unity Party can foster an environment where political rhetoric translates into tangible benefits for all citizens.

The stakes are considerable, and the consequences of neglecting this responsibility could resonate for generations.

The time for leadership grounded in integrity and vision is now, and it begins with the careful and considerate articulation of public statements that prioritize the collective well-being of the nation above all else.
