IPNEWS: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has inaugurated the 22nd Annual General Meeting of the African Road Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) in Monrovia.
Speaking on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, during his keynote address, he called for stronger teamwork, smarter investments, and practical solutions to improve Africa’s road systems.
The meeting, running from November 17-21, 2025, is themed “Innovative Financing and Sustainability of Road Infrastructure in the Face of Climate and Mobility Challenges in Africa”.
President Boakai emphasized that reliable road networks are vital arteries for economic and social progress, connecting farmers to markets, children to schools, and patients to healthcare. He warned that ignoring maintenance issues like potholes and collapsing bridges creates barriers to safety and advancement.
The President urged delegates to move beyond dialogue and commit to “practical and ambitious” solutions, leveraging digital innovations and climate-resilient interventions.
Boakai highlighted infrastructure as a core pillar of his administration’s ARREST Agenda and noted ongoing reforms to Liberia’s National Road Fund to enhance investments and partnerships.
He openly criticized the slow timelines and excessive costs of road projects in Africa, particularly in Liberia, calling for an end to reliance on contractors who fail to meet project deadlines.
The forum brought together delegates from over 35 African nations to share knowledge, discuss innovative financing, and build partnerships aimed at sustainable road maintenance across the continent
