IPNEWS: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on Friday met with members of the Liberian Students Association in Türkiye as part of his working visit to the Republic of Türkiye to discuss issues affecting Liberian students and citizens residing in the country.

The delegation was led by the President of the Liberian Students Association in Türkiye, Mr. Abraham G. Suah, and included the Liberian Student Representative in Istanbul, Mr. Abdurahim Sheik Diallo.

During the meeting, the students welcomed President Boakai and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage him directly. They outlined several concerns affecting Liberian students pursuing higher education in Türkiye.

Among the issues raised was the establishment of a Liberian Embassy in Türkiye. The students noted that a diplomatic mission would improve access to passport renewals, documentation, and other consular services, eliminating the need for Liberians to travel to another country to obtain these services.

The students also proposed the creation of a formal communication channel between the Government of Liberia and Liberian students in Türkiye to facilitate regular engagement and improve coordination on issues affecting the student community.

Additionally, the meeting discussed the importance of maintaining a recognized student representative to coordinate with the Government on matters concerning Liberian students in Türkiye.

President Boakai thanked the students for their thoughtful engagement and encouraged them to remain focused on their studies while continuing to represent Liberia with distinction.

The President acknowledged the concerns presented and assured the students that his Administration would review the matters discussed, particularly those intended to improve government engagement and the delivery of consular services to Liberians living in Türkiye.

He also recognized the important role Liberians abroad play in national development and encouraged the students to continue acquiring the knowledge and skills that will contribute to Liberia’s progress upon their return.
