The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Central Bank of Liberia are being called upon to address the issue of Scratch Card sales and the US dollar exchange rate. Currently, street vendors are selling Scratch Cards at 200 Liberian Dollars, despite the market rate being around 160 Liberian Dollars to 1 US Dollar.
The discrepancy between the official exchange rate and the rate at which Scratch Cards are being sold is causing difficulties for Liberians.
The Sale of Scratch card is not aligning with the US rate, changing US Dollar to Liberian Dollar is 160 as per rate why Card is to be sold for 160LD but it has not been implemented.
Orange and Lonestar wholesale cards is approximately 47 to 48 US Dollar while agent or retailers get ( 3 ) Three Dollars each from the 47 to 48 wholesale, the 48 US Dollar wholesale cards have 50 pieces one of 1 dollar in selling the dollar Cards give you 50LD or 40 LD from one dollar Card as profit.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Central Bank of Liberia are being urged to take action to resolve this issue and ensure that the sale of Scratch Cards is conducted fairly and transparently.
The current situation is placing a financial burden on Liberians who rely on Scratch Cards for their communication needs.
