–Warns Against Spread of Rumors and Falase claims
IPNEWS: The office of former Liberian President George Manneh Weah has dismissed as “completely false and misleading” reports circulating on social media claiming that he contacted Emmanuel Macron, President of France, to seek intervention in the ongoing border dispute between Liberia and Guinea.
In a statement issued by his office, Chief of Staff Eugene Lenn Nagbe clarified that the former president has not made any such contact with the French leader regarding the matter.
The statement noted that while the former Liberian leader remains deeply concerned about the situation along the Liberia–Guinea border and hopes for a speedy and peaceful resolution, he recognizes that the conduct of the country’s foreign policy rests with the sitting government.
It further indicated that former President Weah has not received any national security briefing from the government detailing the severity of the situation, but nonetheless encourages all diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement to prevent regional instability.
Meanwhile, the office of the former president is urging the public to rely on official sources for information relating to George Manneh Weah and to refrain from spreading false or malicious rumors, noting that the claims were largely circulated on social media by some supporters of the Congress for Democratic Change.
