LIBERIA: VP Koung calls for collaboration in formulating policies that strengthens governance

IPNEWS: Vice President Jeremiah Koung has called on members of the Liberian Senate, irrespective of political affiliation, to collaborate in formulating policies and laws that strengthen governance, deepen democracy, and uphold the rule of law.

‎“Our political diversity should be a source of strength, not division,” he said.‎

‎Vice President Koung noted that the Senate stands as a pillar of national governance, a guardian of accountability, and a voice of the people.‎

According to him, through deliberation, laws are shaped, oversight is strengthened, and the promise of the Constitution is kept alive—an effort that calls for courage over comfort, unity over division, and patriotism over partisanship.

‎‎He also underscored that history will remember the Senate for its instrumental role in the passage of Liberia’s first landmark national budget exceeding one billion United States dollars.

    ‎

Koung emphasized that the draft 2026 national budget is not merely a financial milestone but a statement of national intent, signaling to the Liberian people and the international community that Liberia is ready to think bigger, act decisively, and achieve greater results.‎

‎The Vice President made the call on Monday during the opening of the Liberian Senate’s third regular session.

‎‎Commenting further, the Unity Party stalwart commended the opposition for fulfilling its constitutional role of holding the government accountable, noting that a strong democracy requires scrutiny, vigilance, and dissent.

‎He stressed that accountability is most effective when it is constructive rooted in dialogue, evidence, policy debate, and love for country.

    ‎

‎Addressing members of the ruling party, Vice President Koung urged continued focus, discipline, and humility. He indicated that the true measure of leadership lies not in promises made, but in deliverables achieved.‎

Governance, he said, must remain people-centered, results-driven, and responsive to the everyday realities of citizens.

‎‎Vice President Koung assured all Liberians that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai remains fully committed to the complete implementation of the ARREST Agenda—an initiative designed to transform lives, restore confidence in public institutions, and build a resilient economy that works for all.
