IPNEWS: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has categorically and unequivocally denied recent media reports alleging that the Director of the Agency and the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) assaulted a special aide to the OIC during an official assignment.
The LDEA describes the allegations as false, misleading, and completely unfounded, stressing that at no time did the Director or the OIC inflict harm, issue threats, or engage in any form of assault, intimidation, or unethical conduct against any officer. The Agency maintains that the alleged incident did not occur as reported.
According to the LDEA, the officer at the center of the allegations appears to be tele-guided with the sole intent of undermining the notable progress the Agency continues to make in its fight against illicit drugs across Liberia. The leadership believes these claims form part of a deliberate campaign to tarnish the reputation of the Agency and discredit its current leadership.
The Public Affairs Section of the LDEA specifically refutes claims made by Special Agent Myron Swen, who alleged that the OIC assaulted and threatened him during a recent official trip to Nimba County. The Agency emphasizes that these accusations are serious, unsubstantiated, and misleading, and reiterates that the OIC has never engaged in physical abuse, intimidation, or unethical behavior toward any officer under his command.
In keeping with its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, the OIC has instructed the Board of Internal Inquiry to immediately conduct a full, impartial, and independent investigation into the matter. Additionally, the Agency has encouraged Special Agent Swen, should he believe he has a legitimate grievance, to seek redress through a court of competent jurisdiction so that the truth may be fully and fairly established.
The leadership of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency underscores that no officer is above the law, while also affirming that no officer will be subjected to abuse, inhumane treatment, or unethical practices. The current administration remains firmly opposed to misconduct in all its forms and is resolutely committed to professionalism, discipline, and institutional integrity.
The LDEA calls on the public and media institutions to exercise restraint, verify information before dissemination, and refrain from speculation as due process takes its course. The Agency reassures the Liberian public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, enforcing the law, and maintaining public trust in the ongoing fight against illicit drugs.
