IPNEWS: A new Grand Gedeh Referral Hospital will shortly be officially dedicated on January 22, 2026, by the Vice President of Liberia, His Excellency Jeremiah Kpan Koung.

The facility has a capacity of over 100 beds.

It is the largest and most advanced healthcare center in Grand Gedeh County and is expected to be the first modern referral hospital in the entire Southeast region of Liberia.

The hospital aims to significantly improve access to quality medical services, reduce the need for patients to travel to distant facilities (such as Monrovia), and strengthen emergency and specialist care within the region.

The project was initiated under the administration of former President George Manneh Weah and is funded by Welthungerhilfe (German Agro Action).

According to local citizens, there is a proposal for the hospital to be named the Samuel Kanyon Doe Memorial Hospital, in honor of the late President Samuel K. Doe, a native of Grand Gedeh County.
