IPNEWS: Graduates and Former students at the former St. Patrick’s high school Liberia, are hosting their 2026 homecoming and reunion celebrations from Tuesday, March 17, to Thursday, March 19, 2026.
The Event according to organizers is organized by the St. Patrick’s Catholic School Alumni Association to allow former students to reconnect and give back to their alma mater.
On today, Tuesday, March 17: The festivities begin on St. Patrick’s Day with an 8:30 AM Mass followed by a food bank distribution to “Feed the Hungry”. Attendees are encouraged to wear green to celebrate both the feast day and school pride.

March 18–19: Continued homecoming activities in Grand Cess City. The events are centered at the school campus in Grand Cess, Grand Kru County.
Alumni have been holding preparatory meetings in locations like Logan Town to organize the event, which is expected to attract hundreds of former students from across Liberia and abroad.
The Alumni Association has urged all interested parties to contact their officials regarding contributions and final program details.
St. Patrick’s High School (SPHS) was established in Monrovia, Liberia, as a premier Catholic secondary institution that operated from 1936 to 1996. It was renowned for its academic excellence and served as a foundational pillar for many of Liberia’s future professionals.
Founding and Early Years
In 1934, Father John Collins, then Vicar Apostolic of Liberia, founded St. Patrick School in Monrovia under the Society of African Missions (SMA) to provide education for local children.
While in 1936, Father Francis Carroll joined Father Collins, and together they expanded the school’s curriculum.
Subsequently, in 1939, The institution officially extended to the secondary level, becoming St. Patrick’s High School.

Then in 1943, The school celebrated its first graduating class, marking the first time a Catholic school in Liberia conferred high school diplomas.
In 1962, Following the death of Father Collins and the consecration of Father Carroll as Bishop, management was transferred to the Brothers of Holy Cross.
During the 1970s and 80s, SPHS became one of the top schools in the country, frequently achieving the highest scores on national exams.
The school’s original site on Upper Ashmun Street is now occupied by Cathedral Catholic School, which grew out of St. Patrick’s original elementary division.

Civil War and Closure
In 1989. The school was forced to close temporarily due to the outbreak of the First Liberian Civil War, which saw Two American nuns, Sister Agnes Mueller and Sister Shirley Kolmer, who had reopened the school, were tragically killed by rebel forces during the conflict in 1992.
In 1996. On April 6, the Catholic hierarchy officially closed all facilities, including St. Patrick’s High School, due to continued regional instability.
