    —— Wins Best Lawmaker 2025

IPNEWS: Former Speaker of the House Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa has been named “Best Lawmaker of the Year 2025” following public opinion polls conducted by several Liberian media outlets including the Independent Probe Newspaper.

The recognition primarily stems from his perceived commitment to the rule of law and legislative independence during a period of intense political crisis in Liberia.

On an live online public poll,  conducted by both the Independent Probe Newspaper and Hope TV online, Cllr. Koffa emerged as the winner of an online public opinion poll for Best Lawmaker of the Year 2025. He was formally certified for this recognition on December 31, 2025,  by Hope TV while the Independent Probe Newspaper is scheduled to award the Grand Kru County Lawmaker at an elaborate ceremony shortly in Monrovia.

Former Speaker J. Fonati Koffa storms the scene, Best Performing Lawmaker of 2025 With a whopping 1,194 votes (69% of 1.7K)

Former Speaker Koffa won 1,194 (69%) votes, followed by Senator Abraham Dillon: 227 (13%), and current speaker Richard Koon with 179 (9%). Others showing up in the public polls includes Senate Pro Tempore’ Nyoblee Karnga Lawrence: 48 (2%), Senator Amara Konneh: 30 (1%), Senator Prince Moye: 23 (1%), and Senator Gbehzohngar Milton Findley: 22 (0.19%)

In a separate poll conducted in mid-January 2026, by online shine Liberia, Koffa won the title of Best Performing Lawmaker of 2025 with 1,194 votes (69% of the total), defeating current Speaker Richard Koon and other prominent senators.

In an OK FM Recognition, Representative Fonati Koffa was also hailed as “Representative of the Year 2024” by listeners of OK FM’s “OK Conversation”.

The awards were conferred following a turbulent year for  former Speaker Koffa.

Representative Koffa officially resigned as Speaker of the House on May 12, 2025, after months of legislative gridlock and a standoff with a “Majority Bloc” of lawmakers.

Following his resignation, he faced significant legal hurdles, including being charged with arson in June 2025 in connection with a fire at the Capitol Building, though he has denied any involvement.

Despite these controversies, Cllr. Koffa continues to maintain a high level of public support. Supporters cited his willingness to stand against executive influence and his decision to reduce the legislative budget as evidence of his leadership.

Notably, in May 2025, Koffa declined an award from the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC), stating he did not deem himself “worthy” of the honor at that time.
