IPNEWS: In a significant move toward energy independence and sustainable economic growth, Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, hosted a high-level strategic meeting with a nine-member delegation of potential energy investors. The engagement signals Liberia’s commitment to leveraging economic diplomacy to attract strategic investments in critical sectors.
The delegation, led by Liberian-American entrepreneur Mr. James Tarpeh, presented a bold proposal to establish a 300-megawatt power plant in Liberia. The initiative, supported by U.S.-based partners and other international stakeholders, is poised to position Liberia as a self-reliant producer and distributor of electricity, while enhancing its competitiveness in the West African energy market.
Mr. Tarpeh highlighted that the project demonstrates growing global confidence in Liberia’s governance and investment climate under the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. He emphasized that the proposed power plant would significantly reduce Liberia’s dependence on costly and unreliable energy sources, while boosting industrial capacity and strengthening overall economic resilience.
Minister Nyanti described the proposal as timely and fully aligned with Liberia’s long-term development agenda. She reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for credible investors dedicated to supporting Liberia’s energy transition and economic advancement.
“The Government remains committed to providing an enabling environment for high-impact investments that improve livelihoods, promote industrialization, and enhance national competitiveness,” Minister Nyanti said. “A functional and affordable energy sector is essential to Liberia’s progress, and we are encouraged by the interest demonstrated by our international partners.”
She further noted that the meeting reflects Liberia’s proactive use of economic diplomacy—leveraging bilateral and multilateral relationships to attract strategic investments that align with national development priorities.
Assistant Minister for American Affairs, Madam Christiana M. Konneh, echoed similar sentiments, affirming that Liberia will continue to deepen diplomatic engagements to attract foreign direct investment, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and technology sectors. She stressed that economic statecraft is increasingly central to Liberia’s foreign policy, unlocking sustainable development opportunities.
The investor visit represents a key step toward developing sustainable energy solutions capable of meeting domestic demand, stimulating private-sector growth, and improving public service delivery nationwide. The Ministry expressed optimism that ongoing dialogue will result in technical assessments, project scoping, and further negotiations to advance the 300-megawatt energy initiative.
The delegation’s visit was facilitated by Mr. Isaac Taggart, Special Envoy of Liberia to the United States, and supported by Assistant Minister Konneh. The Government of Liberia reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, sustainability, and inclusive economic development, positioning economic diplomacy at the heart of its foreign engagement strategy.
