IPNEWS: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament has declined a request by Majority bloc Speaker Richard Koon recalling three of its members.

Sources indicate that the decision stems from the ECOWAS Parliament’s refusal to recognize the leadership of the majority bloc, led by the illegally elected speaker Richard Koon and supported by President Joseph Boakai.

The ongoing political tensions in Liberia have intensified with this latest development, as the rift between competing factions within the House of Representatives continues to challenge the nation’s governance.

The majority bloc’s request for the recall of the three representatives has raised significant questions about legitimacy and power dynamics in the Liberian legislature.

The ECOWAS Parliament’s stance highlights the recent decision of the majority bloc to not adhere to the advice of the regional Parliament to conduct itself in accordance with the rule of law.

The majority bloc had previously refused to respect the regional Parliament and stated that it had no authority to intervene in the crisis.

Last month, a fuel erupted as to who was officially invited to grace the inauguration of President Mahama, following a leaked invited that surface on social media in which an official Invitation was sent by Ghanian authorities to Speaker Fonati Kofffa, prompting the government of Liberia’s intervention allowing majority bloc Speaker Richard Koon to accompanied President Joseph N. Boakai at the Inauguration to the Ghanaian capital Accra.

It may be recalled, the majority bloc headed by Richard Koon declined a request for mediation by a ECOWAS Parliamentary delegation dispatched to Liberia in November 2024, to mediate the crisis currently undermining normal function of the House of Representative.
