The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) strongly rejects the recent false and defamatory statements circulated by Bishop Torgbor E. Dixon of the Don Stewart Christ Pentecostal Church and Bishop Joseph Gardea Johnson, III of the Restoration Baptist Church. These unfounded allegations have not only misrepresented the truth but have also sought to undermine the integrity and leadership of the LCC.
Over the past two years, this leadership has restored the Council’s credibility, strengthened governance, expanded partnerships, and advanced our mission through impactful advocacy and inclusive development initiatives.
The Council members in the majority and with support of the County chapters reaffirm that the governance of the leadership of Rev.
Dr. Samuel B. Reeves, Jr., is supported by the Executive Council and endorsed by LCC
chapters across all 15 counties.
“The LCC operates under a revised constitution—adopted in 2023 and approved by
the General Assembly—which upholds transparency, accountability, and procedural
integrity. Leadership legitimacy is grounded in constitutional compliance, including active
participation and dues payment.”
“ Regrettably, Bishop Dixon and Bishop Johnson, who challenge this leadership, have failed to pay their annual dues, contributions and attend executive meetings for four and two years, respectively, and thus according to the old 2014 and newly adopted 2023 constitution forfeit the moral and constitutional authority to question it.”
“The Council was also shocked by the unfounded way Bishop Dixon, Bishop Johnson,
former general Secretary, Atty. James Gayflor and representatives from the Apostolic
Pentecostal Church and the Concern Christian Community walked out of the last executive meeting. The Council condemned the action of walkout of the executive board meeting without due respect to the president of the council, heads of churches and executive members after a democratic vote did not favor their position.”
“Such actions reflect a disregard for orderly governance and mutual respect. The Council
expects a formal written apology from those involved.” A statement from LCC read.
Meanwhile, the LCC says it remains open to constructive dialogue and reconciliation. However, we will not compromise our commitment to truth, order, and unity. We urge all members and the wider Christian community to focus on our shared mission: witness, advocacy, service, and the spiritual upliftment of Liberia.
