—Demands Independent Forensic Investigation
IPNEWS: The National Executive Council of the CDC-COP expresses grave concern over the sudden and troubling death of Hon. Solomon George under circumstances that now raise serious legal and moral questions.
In statement issue in Monrovia, the CDC-COP stated that ‘Based on recent public remarks made by Vice President Jeremiah Koung on March 27, 2026, at the Capitol Building, wherein he acknowledged that the late Hon. George was present at his residence prior to his death and further admitted to refusing to answer the dying man’s calls, we hereby declare Vice President Koung a person of interest in this matter.’
“Such a statement, by its very nature, constitutes a material admission that warrants immediate and thorough investigation.” CDC-COP insist.
The statement further notes that ‘in keeping with the laws of the Republic of Liberia, particularly the Criminal Procedure Law and provisions under the Penal Law of Liberia relating to suspicious deaths and possible criminal negligence, the Liberia National Police (LNP) is under both a legal and constitutional obligation to initiate a full-scale forensic investigation. This must include, but not be limited to, toxicology analysis, autopsy review, digital forensics of communication records, and a comprehensive inquiry into what exactly transpired at the residence of the Vice President. The failure to respond to distress calls from an individual who was last known to be in one’s custody or proximity raises potential liability under doctrines of duty of care and criminal neglect, which must not be ignored.’
“Moreover, Article 11(c) of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia guarantees equal protection under the law. This principle demands that no public official, regardless of rank or office, should be shielded from investigation where credible suspicion exists. The CDC-COP therefore calls on the Government of Liberia to ensure that this matter is handled with utmost seriousness, transparency, and impartiality. Any attempt to suppress or politicize the investigation will be viewed as a direct affront to justice and the rule of law.
We further call on civil society organizations, the Liberia National Bar Association, and international partners to closely monitor this case to ensure accountability prevails. The Liberian people deserve answers. The family of the late Hon. Solomon George deserves justice. And the Republic must demonstrate that no one is above the law. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. “ Together, we will protect the state!” the CDC-COP Statement concludes.
It my be recalled Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung expressed “profound sorrow” and a “heavy heart” following the death of former Representative Solomon C. George
, who passed away on February 27, 2026, at age 70.
During a tribute at the Capitol Building on March 26, 2026, the Vice President shared personal details regarding his final interactions with the late lawmaker:
Koung noted that “Solo,” as he affectionately called him, had visited his residence on the Sunday prior to his passing.
The Vice President admitted with regret that he only became aware of messages and missed calls from George regarding his illness the day after they were sent.
He expressed a deep wish that he had been able to speak with George one last time to hear his final thoughts before he died of a reported heart attack.
Koung emphasized that the loss should serve as a reminder for families and the country to unite in support, reflecting on the shared humanity that exists beyond political lines.
His sudden passing has been met with profound sorrow across the political community and among residents of District 7.
A member of the Congress for Democratic Change, he served two terms in the House of Representatives and was recognized for his candid approach and strong grassroots engagement.
