LDEA Nabs Two Guineans With Tramadol Stockpile Worth LRD 585K

IPNEWS: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested and forwarded two Guinean nationals to the Paynesville Magisterial Court for alleged possession of a significant quantity of narcotics — a crime classified as non-bailable under Liberian law.

The suspects, identified as Amadu Diallo, 35, and Safiatu Diallo, 33, were arrested on November 13, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m. by officers assigned to the LDEA Red Light Satellite Detail.

According to the LDEA, the pair was apprehended in the densely populated Red Light commercial district with 21 boxes and 8 strips of Tramadol, a controlled substance widely abused in Liberia and other West African countries.

The confiscated drugs carry an estimated street value of LRD 585,200, authorities disclosed.

Following their arrest, the suspects were processed in line with the agency’s protocol and later turned over to the Paynesville Magisterial Court for prosecution under Liberia’s revised drug law. The statute places stiff penalties on trafficking and possession of narcotics in commercial quantities because of the social harm caused by drug-related crimes.

The LDEA reiterated its call for public support in the fight against illicit drugs, urging communities to report suspicious activities and help protect youth and vulnerable citizens from substance abuse.

In a statement issued and signed by Olando Demey, Chief of Public Relations, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to curbing the flow of illegal drugs into the country.

“The LDEA remains resolute in safeguarding communities and ensuring that drug traffickers face the full weight of the law,” the statement emphasized.

The defendants are expected to remain in detention pending court proceedings, consistent with the non-bailable nature of the offense.
