IPNES: The Embassy of India, Monrovia is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Pharmacopoeia between the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and the Ministry of Health, Government of the Republic of Liberia.
The MoU was formally signed today at the Ministry of Health of Liberia by H.E. Mr. Manoj Bihari Verma, Ambassador of India to Liberia, on behalf of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission; and H.E. Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, Minister of Health of Liberia.
This MoU is a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation in public health, pharmaceutical quality standards and regulatory collaboration. Through this partnership, Liberia will now be able to accept the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) as one of its recognized standards for medicines, enhancing the quality assurance of pharmaceuticals manufactured in or imported into Liberia.
Key areas of cooperation under the MoU include:
- Use of the Indian Pharmacopoeia for authentication and quality testing of medicines imported from India.
- Access to high quality Indian Pharmacopoeia Reference Standards (IPRS) and impurity standards from IPC at affordable cost.
- Strengthening regulatory systems and supporting the development of safe, effective, and affordable generic medicines in Liberia.
- Exchange of technical information and collaboration on pharmacopoeial monographs and emerging pharmaceutical technologies.
- Capacity building and support to regulatory authorities in both countries.
The agreement reflects India’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s public health objectives and deepening cooperation in pharmaceuticals and regulatory capacity building. The signing of this MoU further reinforces the warm and longstanding ties between India and Liberia and opens new avenues for collaboration in the health sector for the benefit of both nations.
