Conflicting reports are now emerging hours after a reported Armed Robbery incident at the ECOBANK head office on 11th street.

Minutes after the incident, Ecobank Liberia Limited expressed regrets to all its customers and the public of  the incident at its Head Office Branch, precisely Private Banking Lounge, 11th Street Sinkor, on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, where an armed man tried robbing the Teller of the lounge.

“We are deeply concerned about this incident and are actively working with local law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough and comprehensive investigation.
The safety and security of our customers and staff remain our utmost priority. We therefore reassure all that we have taken immediate steps to enhance security at all our branches.”

“We understand such incidents may raise concerns regarding safety and security.
We, therefore, wish to reassure all our customers that robust security systems and protocols are in place to protect their funds and personal information. Our operations continue uninterrupted across all branches and digital channels.”

“We appreciate the understanding and continued support of our customers and the public during this time.” Eco Bank statement read.

Hours after Police authorities in Monrovia, identified the suspect as Emery Johnson, a resident of Duport Road, Paynesville.

The authoritative Independent Probe can establish that suspect Johnson is still in the Police custody while investigation is continuing.

On the flipside of the incident, sources closed to the female teller informed IPNEWS that the suspect and the female teller were engaged in a near fistfight over a suspected relationship which the Teller allegedly abandoned while the suspect was attending his graduate school in the Eastern European country of Cyprus.

According to sources , the female teller had been avoiding the suspected armed robber over her desire to quiet the relationship but the suspect who is said to be married with two children had continuously refused on grounds that he wasted so much time and money to school and take care of the female teller.

Earlier, an Officer of SEGAL Varnie Karn, stationed at the scene, recounts how the suspect—identified as Emery Johnson—entered the bank posing as a customer before launching a sudden attack on a teller.

Officer Karn describe a terrifying scene as Johnson was reportedly brandished in handgun, triggering panic across the banking floor.

A closed associate of the pairs identified as ‘Gateaway Konah’, narrates that the female teller and suspect Johnson were both in an intimate relationship but the female teller decided to abandoned the relationship for another person which prompted suspect Johnson to go at her office following series of attempts to meet her home proved unrealistic.

IPNEWS is making frantic efforts for a response from the female teller but up to press time there has been no respond. Investigation continues….
