The Alternative National Congress (ANC) strongly condemns the reckless, baseless, and politically motivated attack by Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah.
In a recent press conference at their headquarters, the Secretary General of ANC Desmond Nimley reported that Piah’s remarks reveal not only dishonesty but also desperation, abuse of public office, and frequent drunkenness.
In response to the Information Ministry’s continued attack, Secretary General Desmond Ujay Nimely noted that Piah is constitutionally obligated to provide truthful, factual, and transparent information to the Liberian people regarding government actions.
Nimely further commented that, unfortunately, instead of fulfilling his sacred duty especially considering his fat salary and hefty benefits paid by taxpayers Piah has turned the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism into a hub of political attacks, where lies, propaganda, and insults against political opponents are churned out.
He reminded Piah that his role requires dignity, integrity, and accountability, not gutter politics or reckless speech.
“His constant vilification of critics of the Boakai administration has disgraced his office and the already struggling government”. Nimely said.
He challenged the Minister to face the truth and inform the Liberian people about the real crises facing the nation, which the Unity Party-led government is failing to address properly.
Nimely also criticized President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for riding luxury vehicles while the economy has collapsed. Prices for basic goods—rice, gasoline, transportation, and drinking water—have soared beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. The cost of living is unbearable, while salaries remain stagnant or unpaid in some cases.
Moreover, the exchange rate has plummeted, yet market prices stay high. “This indicates that the problem isn’t the exchange rate alone but also gross mismanagement, incompetence, and the absence of economic control under Boakai’s government. Despite the Liberian dollar’s nominal strength, people continue to suffer”. He said.
Businesses are closing, civil servants protest daily over poor wages and labor conditions, investors are leaving, and job opportunities are drying up. The government’s poor fiscal discipline and weak leadership have pushed society into deeper poverty and despair.
The ANC Secretary General added that rather than building an economy that empowers Liberians, the administration is busy rewarding political cronies and engaging in secretive deals, such as the questionable procurement of 82 yellow machines, about which the propaganda minister remains silent. If Piah truly served the public, he would explain the bidding process, funding sources, and who benefits from these contracts, instead of diverting attention with political insults.
The ANC urges government officials to focus on addressing the nation’s failures and economic challenges, especially the pressing issues related to everyday living conditions.
