    LIBERIA: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, departs for Doumbouya’s Inauguration

    IPNEWS: President Joseph N. Boakai has departed Liberia, to attend the inauguration of newly elected Guinean President General Mamady Doumvouya, slated for Saturday, January 17, 2026.

    Attendance at the presidential inauguration of General Mamady Doumbouya following his victory in the 2025 Guinean elections.

    The visit reinforces the longstanding bilateral relationship between Liberia and Guinea and underscores Liberia’s commitment to regional solidarity and peaceful transitions in the ECOWAS sub-region.

    While the specific 2026 delegation list for this trip has not been fully detailed in early reports, the President is typically accompanied by senior government officials, including members of the Cabinet and technical advisors.

    Per standard procedure, the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs typically chairs the Cabinet in close consultation with Vice President Jeremiah Koung while the President is away. 

    Ahead of this travel, the Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Conakry, in a press statement warmly welcomes His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., along with his delegation, to Guinea for the inauguration of President-elect General Mamadi Doumbouya.

    President Boakai, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is expected to arrive on January 17, 2026.

    Ambassador Forkpa Gizzie Sr. remarked that the “President’s visit underscores the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Liberia and Guinea. His participation in this historic event highlights Liberia’s commitment to regional diplomacy, solidarity, and collaboration in West Africa. At this time, President Boakai continues to provide exemplary leadership in the Mano River Union (MRU) and the West African region, demonstrating how well-respected he is. The Liberian Mission in Guinea-Conakry applauds him for this achievement.”

    The Embassy expresses profound pride in hosting the President and reaffirms Liberia’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing shared goals for peace, prosperity, and development in the sub-region.
