IPNEWS: The Government of the People’s Republic of China has donated a large consignment of logistical supplies to the Liberia National Police (LNP), aimed at strengthening the institution’s operational capacity and effectiveness nationwide.‎

‎The donation includes 3,000 sets of police uniforms, 1,000 pairs of leather shoes, 1,500 police hats, 500 pairs of boots, 1,500 undershirts, 1,500 raincoats, 90 motorcycles, 1,100 DMR handheld digital radios, and 55 handheld dual-mode radios.‎

‎The items were formally handed over on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police in Monrovia. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia described the donation as a product of the bilateral engagement between President Xi Jinping of China and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

‎‎The Ambassador expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved in implementing the project, particularly the Liberia National Police and its technical teams, and commended the close cooperation between the LNP and the Chinese Embassy. He noted that the supplies ranging from uniforms and motorcycles to communication equipment are intended to improve police mobility, communication, operational readiness, and day-to-day performance.‎

‎According to the Ambassador, the donation reflects China’s concrete support for Liberia’s efforts to strengthen law enforcement capacity, recognizing police officers as key guardians of community safety who require adequate tools to perform their demanding duties effectively.

‎He further stated that the initiative aligns with the Liberian Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, emphasizing that public security is a cornerstone of national stability, rule of law, and social well-being.‎

‎The donated items, he said, will contribute to enhanced public safety and a more secure environment for citizens.

‎Additionally, the Ambassador described the handover as a clear demonstration of the growing China–Liberia strategic partnership, highlighting past cooperation in the security sector, including police training programs in China and the dedication of the Fingerprint Examination Laboratory equipment project in 2024. He expressed optimism that the donation would further deepen bilateral relations and mutual trust.

‎‎Receiving the donation on behalf of the Liberia National Police, Inspector General Gregory O.W. Coleman expressed sincere gratitude to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China for what he termed a timely and significant contribution.

‎IGP Coleman described the gesture as a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between Liberia and China. He said the supplies will substantially enhance the LNP’s operational effectiveness and capacity to serve and protect the Liberian people.

‎‎The Inspector General assured the Chinese Government that the donated items would be utilized strictly for their intended purposes and reaffirmed the LNP’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Liberia while strengthening cooperation with international partners.
