IPNEWS: Mrs. Cecelia Kpor Koon, Wife of House Speaker Richard Koon, has Filed a $3 Million Lawsuit Against President Joseph Boakai’s Senior Advisor Macdella Cooper Over Public Romantic Allegations Targeting Liberia’s Speaker
Mrs. Cecelia Kpor Koon, who claims to be the wife of Liberia’s Speaker of the House, Richard Koon has filed a $3 million lawsuit against Madam Macdella Cooper, accusing her of publicly expressing romantic interest in her husband, Speaker Richard Koon.
The lawsuit stems from recent statements made by Madam Cooper, whom Mrs. Koon alleges publicly expressed her love for the Speaker on various online platforms, despite being fully aware of his marital status and family commitments.
Mrs. Koon’s legal team asserts that Madam Cooper’s actions constitute defamation, emotional distress, and an invasion of privacy.
The lawsuit accuses Madam Cooper of intentionally making provocative statements that tarnish the reputation of Mrs. Koon and her family, inflicting emotional pain and social embarrassment.
According to sources close to the case, Mrs. Koon has also filed for divorce from the Speaker of the House.
She is currently awaiting the official signature from Mr. Koon to finalize the divorce process.
Mrs. Koon has expressed her desire to move forward with her life and has sought legal redress to protect her dignity and reputation.
In a statement issued through her legal counsel, Mrs. Koon emphasized the seriousness of her claims: “This lawsuit is about holding accountable those who publicly disrespect and undermine the sanctity of marriage and family.
No one should be allowed to make false or provocative statements that damage personal integrity and family unity.”
The controversy erupted after Madam Cooper’s social media posts, which included messages and comments that appeared to romantically endorse the Speaker.
These posts sparked widespread social media debates and drew sharp criticism from various political and civil society actors.
Madam Cooper has yet to respond publicly to the allegations. However, legal analysts suggest that the case could have significant implications for public figures and social media conduct in Liberia, highlighting the importance of responsible online behavior and respect for personal boundaries.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the public remains divided on the matter, with some calling for respect for privacy and others condemning the provocative nature of the social media statements.
Legal experts say the case will likely set a precedent regarding the boundaries of social media expression and personal reputation in Liberia’s political landscape.
The court has scheduled the initial hearing for next month, and further details will be made available as the case develops.
