—Says Accusation of plots to kill him are all marked by “hypocrisy and ingratitude”.
IPNEWS: In the wake of last week accusation by Montserrado County Senator Saah Jospeh that the government of former president Weah, and others wanted him dead, Former Liberian President George Weah has delivered a sharp rebuttal to Senator Saah Joseph, accusing him and others of “hypocrisy and ingratitude”.
This public fallout follows Senator Joseph’s recent praise for the current Joseph Boakai administration and his allegations of corruption within the former Weah government.
Speaking at the Forky Klohn Jlaleh Family Fellowship Church on December 28, 2025, Weah addressed the senator’s shifting loyalty:
Weah stated that individuals who once “had nothing” and came from “streets and refugee camps” were now on radio claiming the current government is better. He emphasized that his support and the CDC party helped elevate them to their current positions.
Weah dismissed the senator’s recent criticisms of his administration as “rubbish” and “nonsense” spoken on TV.
He challenged the Boakai government to show actual results, stating he would only accept political defeat in the next election if they could prove they have performed better.
The former president’s response was triggered by several public statements made by Senator Joseph:
During a visit to Lofa County on December 26, 2025, Joseph declared he feels “happier and more secure” under President Boakai than he did under previous administrations.
Joseph revealed that Weah did not speak to him for more than four years of his six-year presidency, despite Joseph chairing the Senate’s Executive Committee.
In earlier appearances on platforms like Spoon Talk, Joseph alleged that the Weah administration demanded bribes from international investors (e.g., $10 million from Bulgarian investors) and that CDC elements had targeted him and burned his home after the 2023 elections.
The exchange highlights deepening divisions within the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC). Allies of Weah, such as Keff Hassan, have publicly declared Senator Joseph’s political career “over,” labeling his actions a betrayal of the party’s base. Meanwhile, Joseph has indicated plans to potentially form his own political party ahead of the 2029 elections.
It may be recalled, Senator Saah Joseph, while visiting Lofa County during the Christmas celebrations, alleged that former President George Weah and members of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), orchestrated plots to “eliminate” him.
Senator Joseph claimed that the February 9, 2024, fire that destroyed his home was not an accident but an act of arson committed by CDC figures. He alleged this was retaliation because he received more votes in Montserrado County than Weah during the 2023 elections.
Joseph revealed that despite being a ranking member of the CDC and chairing the Senate’s Executive Committee, Weah allegedly refused to speak with him for more than four years of his presidency.
He further alleged that other party leaders, such as former CDC National Chairman Mulbah Morlu, were also targeted for assassination, claiming Morlu was drugged and beaten. Morlu has publicly denied these specific claims.
Joseph accused the Weah administration of soliciting multi-million dollar bribes from foreign investors, specifically citing a collapsed US$500 million Bulgarian investment deal where a US$10 million payoff was allegedly demanded.
