IPNEWS- Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), through its Grand Gedeh County Detachment, has arrested a 38-year-old Nigerian national in possession of a large quantity of illegal drugs with an estimated street value of over LRD 1.58 million.

The arrest was carried out on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., by LDEA officers in collaboration with the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS). The suspect, identified as Jackson Ikechukwu, was apprehended at a bypass power crossing point commonly known as Jamaica.

According to the LDEA, the suspect was found in possession of three (3) large bundles and three (3) small plastic bags of kush, one plastic bag of precursor substances, eighty (80) strips of tramadol, and raw cocaine.

The seized narcotics were weighed and recorded as follows:

    • Kush: 211.8 grams

    • Tramadol: 112.8 grams (80 strips)

    • Raw cocaine: 44.7 grams

The total estimated street value of the drugs is LRD 1,586,061, equivalent to approximately USD 8,347.69.

LDEA authorities confirmed that the suspect has been formally charged with illegal possession of narcotics in violation of Liberia’s drug laws and is currently in custody awaiting court trial.

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse across the country and has called on the public to remain vigilant and cooperative.

“The LDEA urges all citizens and residents to continue assisting in the fight against drug trafficking by promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest law enforcement authorities,” the Agency stated.

The LDEA says joint operations with partner security institutions will continue as part of ongoing efforts to protect communities and curb the spread of illicit drugs in Liberia.
