—-Takes Senior GOV’T Officials on Tour of Anchorage

IPNEWS: Barely a week since the National Port Authority (NPA) of Liberia officially transitioned to 24-hour marine operations at the Freeport of Monrovia, a milestone, launched in mid-2025, allows vessels to berth and depart at any time, significantly reducing waiting times and boosting trade efficiency.

Under this new service schedule, Vessels can now safely navigate and anchor during night hours due to the installation of advanced navigational aids and 24-hour lighting systems at the Freeport of Monrovia and Buchanan Port.

The transition was supported by a $4 million investment from APM Terminals Liberia for new equipment, including a marine pilot boat, patrol boat, and container handlers.

The initiative is expected to increase government revenue, create jobs, and position Liberia as a competitive maritime hub in the West African region.

The NPA is also implementing a real-time digital interface for cargo tracking and digitizing data across its four ports (Monrovia, Buchanan, Greenville, and Harper).

On the heels of this milestone, Hon. Sekou A. M. Dukuly, the Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Wednesday, December 2025, alongside the Executive Mansion Press Team led by Presidential Press Secretary Kula Bonah Fofana and the Ministry of Information headed by Hon. Daniel O. Sando, conducted a tour at the anchorage of the Freeport of Monrovia.

The visit assessed 24-hour navigation, vessel traffic, and congestion challenges, while highlighting compelling reasons for government investment in port expansion, particularly at the LMC Pier, to increase capacity, reduce delays, support trade growth, and strengthen national economic resilience.

Earlier in November 2025, Mr. Dukuly conducted an evening patrol and assessment of operations at APM Terminals, accompanied by the Executive Mansion Press Corps, to ensure efficiency and transparency.

A significant event in July 2025 was the launch of 24-hour marine operations at the Freeport of Monrovia, which involved key government figures, including Vice President Jeremiah Koung, and officials from the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) and APM Terminals.

Earlier this month, Mr. Dukuly welcomed the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo Urey) to discuss environmental compliance and safety in port operations, which may relate to marine environments like anchorages.

Mr. Dukuly has also been part of Liberian government delegations for international forums and meetings with foreign investors and partners.
