IPNEWS: The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has issued a strong rebuttal to what it describes as “baseless, misleading, and politically motivated” allegations made by Mr. Jefferson T. Koijee, distancing the Commission from claims of financial impropriety and politically linked payments.
In a statement released Thursday, the LACC expressed deep regret that an individual who once served in public office would “intentionally mislead the Liberian people with false narratives crafted to incite public confusion.”
According to the Commission, Mr. Koijee falsely alleged that the LACC was involved in the diversion of public funds and had made payments associated with the so-called “December 6 Mobilization.” The anti-graft body categorically denied these assertions as “entirely false, reckless, and unsupported by any factual basis.”
The LACC emphasized that it has made no such payments, engaged in no such scheme, and never participated in or endorsed any illicit financial activity as suggested by Mr. Koijee.
“The Commission operates under strict legal, administrative, and financial procedures,” the statement noted, adding that its operations are subjected to internal controls, external audits, and the rule of law.
“Any insinuation that the LACC is part of a criminal network or political patronage system is not only false but a deliberate attempt to drag integrity institutions into political theatre.”
Reaffirming its mandate, the LACC assured the public of its unwavering commitment to:
• Investigate corruption without fear or favor,
• Uphold transparency and accountability, and
• Safeguard the public interest through lawful, professional conduct.
The Commission called on the public, international partners, and stakeholders to disregard Mr. Koijee’s claims and to rely only on verified information from credible institutions.
“The LACC will not be deterred by calculated attempts to undermine its work,” the release stated. “We remain focused on serving the Liberian people with integrity. The truth cannot be distorted by political desperation.”
The Commission urged anyone with legitimate evidence of corruption to use the proper legal channels rather than fueling misinformation.
“The LACC stands firm, focused, and unshaken,” the statement concluded.
Earlier, Jefferson T. Koijee, Secretary-General of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), had accused the ruling Unity Party (UP) of systemic corruption, alleging that over US$1.3 million intended for anti-corruption initiatives and public services was diverted to fund a partisan political event. Koijee criticized the government as a “Gang of Thieves and State Looters” and claimed that the funds, which were meant for the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), and Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), were misallocated outside official budgetary channels and funneled directly to individuals.
Koijee condemned the government for bypassing proper oversight and accountability in using public funds for what he referred to as the “December 6 Mobilization.” He emphasized that this alleged misuse of resources highlights a collapse of institutional integrity and a failure to prioritize essential services for the people of Liberia. According to Koijee, the diversion of these funds shows the government’s preference for enriching political supporters rather than improving the welfare of the nation’s citizens.
