IPINEWS: The House of Representatives has summoned three key state institutions — the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), the Liberia National Police (LNP), and the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) — to appear before Plenary next Tuesday to provide a detailed update on the tragic fire incident that claimed five lives in the Duport Road corridor.
The decision followed a formal communication from Montserrado County District #4 Representative, Hon. Michael Thomas, who raised concerns over the deadly November 14, 2025 blaze in the Shara Community. The inferno killed community chairlady Mrs. Deiode Garnette, her children Ms. Judee Garnette and Isaac Garnette, and two grandchildren, Christopher Freeman and Ruth Fleming. (May their souls rest in peace.)
Hon. Thomas informed Plenary that although the LNFS, LNP, and LEC promptly responded to the scene and launched investigations, none of the agencies have released an official report nearly three weeks after the tragedy. This lack of clarity, he said, has led to speculation, confusion, and heightened tension among residents.
“As the representative of the district where this heartbreaking incident occurred, I have taken a vested interest in ensuring that our constituents receive clarity,” he stated. “The absence of official findings has intensified tensions and confusion within the community.”
He therefore appealed to the House to invite the three institutions to present their findings, noting that a formal briefing is crucial to addressing public concerns, dispelling misinformation, and reassuring affected families.
Following deliberations, Plenary voted in favor of the request and officially summoned the LNFS, LNP, and LEC to appear next Tuesday. Lawmakers stressed that the oversight responsibility of the Legislature requires ensuring that public safety agencies operate with transparency, especially in matters involving the loss of lives.
The upcoming appearance is expected to shed light on the cause of the fire, response actions taken, and any systemic issues that may have contributed to the tragedy, as the nation awaits clarity and accountability. House Summons Fire Service, Police, and LEC Over Deadly Duport Road Fire
