IPNEWS: Senator Crayton Oldman Duncan has challenged young Liberians to position themselves as drivers of national transformation, urging members of the Vanguard Student Unification Alliance (SUA) to champion integrity, advocacy, and responsible leadership.
Speaking Saturday as keynote speaker at the 14th Annual SUA Retreat in Fish Town, the River Gee County Senator emphasized that Liberia’s persistent challenges are not due to a lack of resources but a lack of courageous and visionary decision-making by leaders.
“Liberia is abundantly blessed,” Senator Duncan said. “But we continue to struggle because of the inability of those in leadership to make decisions that truly improve the lives of our people. This is why young people must rise and become agents of positive change.”
The senator encouraged the student body to maintain its strong advocacy presence at Tubman University and to continue speaking out on issues that impact youth and the wider society.
During the engagement, SUA leadership informed Senator Duncan of their plan to acquire a plot of land valued at US$1,300 for the construction of a future headquarters.
Responding to the request, Senator Duncan immediately donated US$1,500 to facilitate the land purchase an act met with loud applause and appreciation from students and community members in attendance.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, Jefferson Wah, Chairman of the Vanguard Student Unification Alliance, thanked Senator Duncan for honoring their invitation and making the long journey from Monrovia to Fish Town.
“This gesture demonstrates Senator Duncan’s genuine commitment to the student community and Liberia’s youthful population,” Wah said. He appealed to the senator to continue supporting student-led initiatives, noting that partnerships with national leaders are essential to strengthening youth participation in governance and development.
The retreat brought together student leaders from across various departments of Tubman University and featured discussions on:
• Advocacy and student rights
• Community service
• Strengthened student representation
• Youth leadership and national development
The event reaffirmed SUA’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of forward-thinking and responsible young leaders. Senator Duncan Inspires Vanguard Students: “Be the Agents of Positive Change Liberia Desperately Needs”
