IPNEWS: The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has successfully completed its first post-war swamp rice harvest near the Edward Binyah Kesselly (EBK) Barracks in Margibi County.
This initiative marks a significant step toward national food security and self-sufficiency, aligning with President Joseph Boakai’s agricultural agenda.
The project was executed by the newly activated AFL Agriculture Company (Agri Coy), led by Captain Emmanuel Wisseh, under the general command of Chief of Staff Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh.
The Agri Coy was activated on February 6, 2025, and the first harvest was completed around November 26, 2025.
The pilot project took place in a swamp field in the vicinity of the EBK Barracks in Lower Margibi County.
The initiative received strong technical support from the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP).
The primary goal is to strengthen food security by enabling the military to feed its own personnel, including new recruits during training, and eventually contribute to national food needs.
This project is a major step in the AFL’s evolution from a war-fighting force to one involved in nation-building and national development, adopting the unofficial motto “A Force for Good”.
Plans are underway to expand the Agri Coy from a company-sized unit to a battalion and replicate the agricultural projects across all AFL barracks nationwide, reducing Liberia’s reliance on imported rice.
