Fatima Bintu Sirleaf Faces Scrutiny After Admitting False Academic Claim at Senate Hearing.

Fatima Bintu Sirleaf, nominee for Deputy Minister of Urban Affairs, is facing growing scrutiny after admitting she provided inaccurate information about her academic credentials during her Senate confirmation hearing.

‎‎Sirleaf appeared before the Senate on Monday as confirmation proceedings resumed and acknowledged that she had previously misstated her academic qualifications. She had initially claimed to hold a minor in Urban Development, but later corrected herself, saying she does not hold this minor.

‎‎“I would like to first of all clarify… I apologize for an earlier misstatement,” Sirleaf told senators. She explained that she holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work with specialized studies in Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Urban Development.‎

‎The admission has raised concerns among lawmakers about transparency and credibility in the confirmation process. Several senators indicated that they may subject her nomination to heightened scrutiny as hearings continue in the coming days.‎

‎The incident highlights ongoing calls for accountability and accurate representation of qualifications among public office nominees in Liberia. ‎By: Sampson W Weah , ‎sampsonweah7@gmail.com
