NPP Chairman Blast Gov’t Over Halting CMC Gbarnga Bridge Project

IPNEWS:  The Chairman of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), Atty. George Sylvester Mulbah, has voiced strong criticism against the government for halting the construction of a bridge in Gbarnga, Bong County, initiated by the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC).

Atty. Mulbah urged authorities to grant CMC the necessary approvals to resume work on the project, highlighting the bridge’s significance for the local community. According to him, the bridge is crucial for easing transportation and improving access for residents, many of whom rely on it for daily commuting, trade, and social activities.

In a pointed challenge, Atty. Mulbah called on the government to provide any official documentation to substantiate its claim that it had previously planned to construct the same bridge, which was cited as the reason for canceling CMC’s project. He described the cancellation as unnecessary and detrimental to the county’s development.

“The people of Bong County cannot afford delays in essential infrastructure projects. We call on the government to either allow CMC to complete this bridge or present proof of its prior plans. Anything less undermines transparency and development,” Atty. Mulbah stated.

The controversy comes amid increasing calls for more efficient collaboration between private initiatives and government agencies to accelerate infrastructure development across Liberia.

Residents of Gbarnga have expressed hope that the government will reconsider its decision, allowing CMC to continue the bridge project, which many view as vital for boosting local commerce and connectivity.
