IPNEWS: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has made significant progress in its fight against the trafficking and abuse of illegal substances, following the confiscation of large consignments of marijuana and Tramadol in separate operations in Montserrado and Grand Cape Mount Counties.

According to the LDEA, officers assigned to its Satellite Station in Caldwell, Louisiana Community, on Tuesday, confiscated a quantity of marijuana mixed with peanuts and eggnut from a 26-year-old female identified as Dorothy Magee, a resident of the area.

The illegal substance, valued at over L$127,000, was discovered during a routine patrol conducted by LDEA agents. The agency confirmed that this seizure marks the second major drug bust in the Caldwell community in less than two weeks.

Suspect Magee is currently in custody and undergoing investigation. The LDEA said she will be forwarded to court for prosecution in accordance with Liberian law.

In a related operation, LDEA officers at Bo-Waterside, Grand Cape Mount County, arrested 23-year-old Justine Roberts, a Liberian national, after discovering 1,374 strips of Tramadol concealed in a blue Nissan Amaria vehicle bearing license plate number A12542.

The confiscated Tramadol is estimated to be worth over L$2 million. The suspect is also under investigation and will be sent to court for trial upon completion of the process.

The LDEA reaffirmed its commitment to curbing the proliferation of illicit drugs across Liberia and urged citizens to continue sharing credible information that can assist ongoing operations nationwide.

“The Agency remains steadfast in dismantling drug trafficking networks and will continue to work tirelessly to protect our communities from the devastating impact of narcotics,” LDEA spokesperson said.
