The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) has reportedly shut down Srimex terminals, owned by Nimba county Representative Musa Bility, over allegations of unpaid taxes and non-compliance with new tariff regulations.
The shutdown comes amidst heightened tensions between Bility and the Liberian government, following the government’s decision to drastically reduce petroleum storage fees from $0.35 to $0.05 per gallon.
Bility has publicly criticized the fee reduction, describing it as a political witch-hunt designed to hurt his company’s revenues and accusing Vice President Jeremiah Koung and Senators Prince Moye and Emmanuel Nuquay of orchestrating the policy. However, Senator Moye has countered Bility’s claims, asserting that the reduced fees benefit the Liberian people and are not the property of private tank owners.

This week, Representative Musa Bility declared his intention to contest the Liberian presidency in the 2029 general elections, challenging incumbent President Joseph Boakai. Bility, many thought this was another political announcement but it seems real that the Nimba County Direct No 7 Representative is dead serious and has reiterated his quest to defeat President Joseph N. Boakai in the 2029 presidential elections.
Making the declaration on his Truth FM, on September 3, 2025, Bility stated he would not seek reelection for his seat as Representative for Nimba County District #7 and would instead focus on his presidential bid.
Bility is the political leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), a party officially certified on March 7, 2025, and established in early 2025. The CMC held its first national convention in Saclepea, Nimba County, on March 1, 2025, where Bility was elected Political Leader unopposed.
Recently Bility had been conducting pre-campaign activities emphasizes the CMC’s focus on Fighting corruption, Promoting transparency and accountability, and Championing inclusive national development
Bility has criticized both the ruling Unity Party and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), calling for a “third lane” in the 2029 election, which he aims to represent with the CMC.
He has also stated that he prefers to face President Boakai in the 2029 election rather than Vice President Jeremiah Koung. Bility’s political aspirations and the emerging role of the CMC are generating discussions and debates in Liberia ahead of the 2029 presidential elections.

Musa Bility stated that the incumbent is already unpopular, am currently more popular than President Joseph Boakai, which is one reason why they are doing everything to bring me down. However, this does not come as a surprise to me as a politician. I have predicted this scenario, although many may not believe that a government which boasts of being the most politically tolerant ruling establishment would target businesses simply because of opposing political views.
I refuse to be moved by this and it does not bother me. I am a man-a courageous man who becomes even more energized when opponents think they have already defeated me. This is my game, and I do not allow myself to be distracted by setbacks when I am striving to achieve my goals.
