The Centrism Movement Calls for Calm and Timely Investigation Over Fire Incident at Former President’s Residence

The Liberia Political Centrism Movement (LPCM), has expressed its concern over the recent fire incident at the residence of former President George Manneh Weah, while the group calls on parties concerned to remain calm in the interest of peace and stability  for the country. LPCM, also says it’s happy for the safety of the former President, as it urges a credible,  timely, and independent investigation into the cause of the incident.

The LPCM cautioned both the Government of Liberia and the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC),

against politicizing the tragedy or fueling tensions that could endanger Liberia’s fragile peace, in the

face of divisive rhetoric and unsubstantiated claims which could risk undermining public confidence

and destabilizing national security and unity.

At the same time, the LPCM commends the Government of Liberia for recent strides in the petroleum

sector, including the successful attraction of major foreign investors such as Total Energies and Oranto

Petroleum, which according to the movement, “such investments are vital to boosting Liberia’s

economy, generating jobs, and improving public revenues.”

Speaking on the importance of stability and development, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, the Founder and

Chairperson of the LPCM’s Executive Steering Committee, said: “a stable and violence-free Liberia

presents viable economic opportunities, essential to building a prosperous nation. We must ensure that

political disagreements do not derail the momentum of progress in critical sectors such as petroleum,

infrastructure, and for the governance and reform needed.”

The LPCM calls on all political actors, civil society groups, and citizens to maintain calm and focus on

constructive engagement as investigations proceed, because Liberia’s future lies in the peace, unity,

and shared progress of all, and not division,” the statement concluded.

About LPCM: The Liberia Political Centrism Movement (LPCM) is a civic-political platform that

promotes a balanced, people-centered approach to governance and development beyond partisan

divides. Its mission is to build a prosperous, resilient, and equitable Liberia by empowering citizens,

    strengthening institutions, and fostering unity
