REP. WOMBA HAILS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR PASSING BCTC UNIVERSITY STATUS BILL

Bong County district #4 Representative Robert Flomo Womba has extended his profound appreciation to the Honorable House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia for the overwhelming passage of the landmark bill seeking to grant full university status to the Bong County Technical College (BCTC).

This legislative milestone marks a significant victory not just for the people of Bong County, but for all Liberians who believe in equitable access to higher education, the decentralization of academic excellence, and the transformation of our regional institutions into engines of national development.

The passage of this bill comes after years of advocacy, consultations, and the tireless efforts of community leaders, education stakeholders, and our dedicated students who have long envisioned BCTC as a full-fledged university.

The transition of BCTC into a university is not a mere change in nomenclature, it is a bold step toward expanding academic programs, attracting qualified faculty, fostering innovation, and addressing the skill gap in Liberia’s technical and professional workforce.

As a university, BCTC will be empowered to offer a broader range of undergraduate and future postgraduate degrees, conduct research that addresses local and national challenges, and serve as a pillar of socio-economic progress in Bong County and beyond.

As we Bill await action from the Honorable Liberian Senate, Rep Womba has called members of the Senate to act with urgency and patriotic purpose.

The benefits of this transformation are immense and time-sensitive. With Senate concurrence and the President’s signature, we will begin a new chapter for BCTC—one rooted in academic freedom, research, community service, and national impact, said Womba.

The Lawmaker has also pledged to champion the aspirations of Bong County.
