IPNEWS: Residents of Electoral District 10 in Montserrado County have declared a vote of no confidence in Representative Yekeh Kolubah.

The disappointed residents of District Number Ten Montserrado County under the canopy of progressive professionals of the District at a press conference also demand the immediate resignation of their controversial lawmaker or risk impeachment by his own people.

Among other things, the people of District ten Montserrado County attributed their plan drastic decision to the alleged failure of their Lawmaker to fulfill his legislative responsibilities over the past six years.

“Representative Yekeh has proven that he cannot fulfill the duties he was elected to carry out, hence, it is time for him to step down or be removed. As the situation unfolds, we as residents of Electoral District 10 are united in our demand for accountability, urging for a representative who will prioritize our well-being and actively engage with the community”, they reechoed.

As part of their latest effort residents of the district according to the lead campaigner Clifford Russell have begun organizing petitions and mobilizing community support to initiate the process leading to an impeachment vote.

The Progressive Professionals of Electoral District 10, Montserrado County, The Conscious Minded Youth of District 10, Montserrado County and The Women Movement, District 10, Montserrado County, Liberia, all representing the general interest of the people of Electoral district 10, Montserrado County, Republic of Liberia therefore call on all citizens of the District 10, to rally and ensure in accordance with the Constitution and the provisions thereof, to uphold the sanctity of the district, the rights and welfare of citizens by affixing their signatures on the petition to be submitted to the House of Representatives to begin an impeachment proceedings of Yekeh Kolubah nothing that failure to act now, would not only be a violation of the Constitution but would also set a dangerous precedent for future lawmakers in their district, the time to act is now, they maintain.

The group comprising residents from all pillars to include the youth, women, the elderly among others across the District and Communities gathered to voice their frustrations regarding their representative’s alledged persistent absence from the district and his negligence towards his duties at the Capitol.

According to the lead campaigner Clifford Russell, Representative Kolubah was elected to serve and advocate for the interests of District 10, but claimed that he has not reported back to his constituents regarding his legislative activities for seven years, leaving the residents feeling abandoned and unrepresented.

“Yekeh’s tenure as representative has been marked by a relentless campaign of chaos and insecurity, overshadowing the pressing needs of the district he was elected to serve. Rather than prioritizing tangible outcomes for his constituents, Yekeh has been more preoccupied with political battles and infighting at the Capitol”, he narrated.

Additionally, he pointed out that his lawmaker alleged constant focus on conflict has detracted him from his responsibility to advocate for meaningful initiatives that would improve the lives of those he represents.

The residents of Electoral District 10, Montserrado County notes with grave concern that for seven years, their legislative leader has allegedly ignored the basic standards of accountability and transparency.

“His lack of reporting to us has left the community feeling disenfranchised and unheard. Representative Yekeh has for seven years intentionally and willfully refused to setup the District Leadership and District Development Council”, he re-emphasized.

According to them, Representative Kolubah has significantly failed to meet the key performance indicators (KPIs) associated with his role in lawmaking, representation, and oversight.

Mr. Russell explained that District 10 is faced with numerous challenges which they expect their lawmaker to work along with them as a good leader in order to have them addressed but such he stated is the complete opposite.

He named some of the challenges as the underfunding of schools and deplorable basic infrastructures as well as poor healthcare services while the people continue to battle and struggle over access to safe drinking water.

Additionally, the rise in drug use has exacerbated the situation, creating an environment where more young people are becoming At- Risk Youth popularly know as zogoes by the day, he added.

Speaking further, the residents of District ten Montserrado County frowned at their Lawmaker’s (Kolubah) regular use of profanity as a means of communicating something they described as highly dishonorable and brings the integrity of the Legislature and the district into question.

They believe that as a lawmaker, Representative Kolubah should lead by example and maintain a decorous language that reflects the values and principles of the Legislature and teaches good morals to the people of the district especially the younger kids.

Unfortunately, they regret the manner and form in which their Representative constantly and repeatedly made use of profanity in public settings, including during legislative sessions, thereby displaying a lack of respect for his fellow lawmakers and the district he represents.

His performance they maintained and alleged has been inadequate as such demand action indicating further that they are prepared to ensure that our voices are heard.

Meanwhile, as the campaign intensifies, more residents within the district continue to welcome such initiative stating that it is time to take a radical approach in a drive to save the face and image of their beloved district. Courtesy of Julius Konton
