LIBERIA: ANC Alexander Cummings Vows to Remain Robust

IPNEWS: IPNEWS: Alexander B. Cummings, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), has vowed to take on a more vocal role in addressing the challenges facing Liberia in 2025

In his New Year’s message to Liberians, Cummings reflected on the strides and setbacks of 2024, recognizing the ongoing struggles of ordinary citizens and pledging to amplify his voice in the national discourse.

“2024 was a year of hope, challenges, and reflection for us individually and collectively as Liberians,” Cummings remarked. “Our democracy took a step forward with the smooth transition from one government to the other but also suffered setbacks, as evidenced by the saga in the House of Representatives.”

Cummings pointed to the hardships endured by many Liberian families, citing cost-of-living pressures, harsh economic conditions, and an uncertain political environment as key issues that require urgent attention. While acknowledging the progress made in the peaceful transfer of power, he expressed concern over governance and economic management under the Unity Party-led administration.

The ANC leader revealed that his relative silence since the new administration took office was intentional, allowing the government time to establish itself while he engaged in consultations and listened to the concerns of citizens. However, with mounting calls for him to take a more proactive stance, Cummings signaled his readiness to engage more forcefully in 2025.

“Amidst these challenges, there have been numerous calls by both supporters and ordinary Liberians for me to be vocal on the happenings in our country and to keep the UP-led government’s feet to the fire. I hear you,” he said. “While I will continue to wish the government well—as their success would be good for the Liberian people—I will speak more vocally about the challenges of our country, offering perspectives that I hope will be helpful in the supreme interests of our country and people.”

SEE FULL NEW YEAR’S DAY MESSAGE

    Fellow Liberians,

A Very Happy New Year To You And Yours.  I Wish You All The Best in 2025 And Many More Happy, Healthy And Prosperous Years To Come.

2024 was a year of hope, challenges, and reflection for us individually and collectively as Liberians.  Our democracy took a step forward with the smooth transition from one government to the other, but unfortunately also suffered some setbacks as evidenced by the saga in the House of Representatives. Additionally, many families struggled to barely make it under the weight of cost of living pressures, harsh economic  conditions, and an uncertain political environment that have continued to bedeviled our nation.

Amidst these, there has been numerous calls by both supporters and ordinary Liberians  for me to be vocal on the happenings in our Country and keeping the UP led Government feet to the fire.  I hear you.  I have followed events closely and occasionally commented and made observations on critical issues to remind us all, including our government, that to move our country forward we must employ a new mind set and a new way of doing things.  I  have  not commented too often because I thought it wise to give the new government the opportunity to get its bearings.  I also thought it was equally important  to consult more and listen to the reflections of fellow Liberians.

Fellow Liberians, while I will continue to wish the government well, in 2025 and beyond, as their success would be good for the Liberian people and for our common patrimony, I will however speak more vocally about the challenges of our country, offering perspectives that I hope will be helpful  in the supreme interests of our country and people.

Again, Happy 2025 and beyond to All Of Us and especially to the Women and Young People who are the backbone of our nation Liberia.

God Bless You and God Bless Liberia.
