    LEGISPOOL Condemns Attack on Secretary General, Calls for Speedy Investigation

    IPNEWS: The leadership of the Legislative Press Pool (LEGISPOOL) strongly condemns the violent attack on its Secretary General, Blamo N. Toe, by an officer of the Executive Protection Service (EPS), reportedly identified as Korvah Jomo. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, while Journalist Toe was providing media coverage during President Joseph Boakai’s visit to the Legislature.

    LEGISPOOL, the umbrella organization of journalists covering the Liberian Legislature, views this attack not only as an assault on an individual but also as a grave affront to press freedom and the democratic values that underpin our nation.

    “Such acts of violence against journalists undermine the essential role of the press in a democratic society and jeopardize the free flow of information critical to public discourse and accountability.”

    “We call on the relevant authorities, particularly the leadership of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), to conduct a thorough and swift investigation into this incident. It is imperative that those responsible for this reprehensible act are held accountable to ensure the safety of all journalists who work tirelessly to inform the public and uphold the principles of transparency and good governance.”

    “Journalists play a pivotal role in reporting the truth and serving the public interest. As such, we urge the government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action to protect journalists and foster an environment where they can operate without fear of intimidation or violence.” LEGISPOOL stated.

    LEGISPOOL release further noted that it stands in full solidarity with Blamo N. Toe, who also reports for The Liberian Investigator, and with all journalists who face threats while fulfilling their professional duties. The safety of journalists is paramount to the health of our democracy.

    “We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the protection of press freedom and the rights of all media professionals in Liberia.” LEGISPOOL
