—- Calls for Full Support
During his address as National Orator at the 178th National Flag Day celebration, Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu confirmed that the long-anticipated National Anti-Corruption Court and the War Crimes Court are set to be established in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
According to the Executive Director of the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court, President Joseph Boakai has expressed full support for the establishment of both courts.
The National Anti-Corruption Court is expected to become operational by November 2026, followed by the War and Economic Crimes Court in November 2027.
Cllr. Barbu emphasized that the implementation of these courts will rely heavily on both political will and financial commitment from the government.
He underscored that this is a Liberian-owned and Liberian-led process, calling on national stakeholders to take full ownership of its success.
He also urged President Boakai to direct all relevant governmental institutions to fully implement the provisions of Executive Order No. 148, particularly ensuring the timely disbursement of funds mandated under the order to the Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court.
“Let me be clear,” Cllr. Barbu stated, “when a public official disregards the dignity of the law including executive orders, which are presidential mandates and thus carry the weight of law, it constitutes a misuse and abuse of power, and a clear act of corruption. Such conduct must not be tolerated.”
Cllr. Barbu stressed that the establishment of these courts should not be seen as President Boakai’s personal initiative, but rather a national endeavor.
He called on members of the Legislature to actively support and invest in the process, ensuring its timely and effective realization.
