The Representative of Montserrado County Electoral District #7, Hon. Emmanuel Dahn, has formally written to the leadership of the House of Representatives, requesting the appearance of Hon. F. Sakila Nyumalin, Sr., Minister of Internal Affairs, before leadership.
This request follows growing public concern over a communication allegedly issued by Minister Nyumalinโalso serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Identification Registry (NIR)โwhich reportedly reassigns Mr. Alphonso Belleh, a presidential nominee for the position of Deputy Director General for Administration at the NIR, to the role of Manager for Research, Policy, and Development Planning.
Hon. Dahn emphasized that this action, taken without an official rescission or withdrawal of the nomination by the President of the Republic, could be interpreted as an overreach of executive appointing authority, which is constitutionally vested in the President under Article 56(a) of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.
โIn the spirit of transparency and constitutional governance, it is prudent that the Minister of Internal Affairs appear before this august body to clarify the basis for his actions,โ Hon. Dahn stated. โThis will not only address public concern but also reaffirm the constitutional balance of powers and procedures regarding executive appointments.โ
