Wee District Youth Hail ArcelorMittal Liberia for Uniting Children in Joyful Independence Celebration

The leadership of Wee District Youth for Development has lauded ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) for bringing smiles and a sense of celebration to children across Boeglay and surrounding villages in Wee Statutory District during a special Independence Day party marking Liberia’s 177th Independence anniversary.

Described by the local youth leadership as a “historic” moment, the event brought together children from several rural communities, creating a rare and joyful experience of unity, festivity, and national pride for the youngest members of the district.

Andrew Bowah, Assistant Secretary General for the district’s youth, said the July 26 celebration left a lasting impact on the children, many of whom were celebrating the holiday with their peers in such a grand way for the first time.

“Some of the gifts meant so much to the children, especially the slippers and other items. It made the day even more special for them,” Bowah remarked.

The youth leadership praised AML for its consistent recognition of the youth sector in Wee District and highlighted the value of such outreach initiatives in strengthening community bonds and fostering social inclusion.

Youth volunteers from the district played an active role in supporting the event. They worked alongside AML staff to organize and coordinate the large crowd of excited children, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.

“We were there to help AML workers identify with the community children and to support them in managing the event,” said the youth leadership. “We understand the rural setting well, so we helped keep the children in order to ensure everything went smoothly.”

The children’s Independence Day party is part of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s wider commitment to community engagement and youth development across its operational areas. The company believes that meaningful investment in children and young people is essential to building stronger and more connected communities.

As laughter and cheerful voices echoed through Boeglay, the celebration stood as a heartwarming reminder that small gestures of kindness and inclusion can leave lasting impressions—especially in the lives of children who rarely experience such moments of joy.
