The Office of the West African Examination Council Liberia office has officially released provisional results from the 2025, National and International Exams respectively.
The two exams began on April 28 and climax on June 2025.
Releasing the results for the International category, the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Exams, the Head of National Office of WAEC, Dale Gbotoe said 51, 822 candidates sat the Exams with female accounting for 26,833 and males, 24,989.
He disclosed that of the total number of candidates who sat the test 48, 393 amounting to 93.38% successfully passed the exams while 3,391 failed respectively.
Even though they feeded smaller number of candidates compared to other Counties, but Mr. Gbotoe named Rivercess, Grand Kru, Bong and Maryland as they Counties that performed exceptional well while Rivergee, Lofa and Gbarpolu performed below the belt.
According to the statistics all 125 candidates from Rivercess County passed successfully constituting for 100%.
Grand Bassa County came second with 1604 candidates (99.50%)passed while eight candidates failed.
Grand Kru came in third with 212 (98.6%) candidates who passed while three failed and in fourth place is Maryland County with 1669(97.20%) passed while thirty-one failed.
On the other hand Rivergee County came least in performance County with 26 students who failed amounting for 44.68% while twenty- one passed.
In Lofa County, 782 students failed accounting for 51.09% while 817 passed and in Gbarpolu County, 56 candidates (54.84%) failed and 68 candidates passed respectively.
The Head of WAEC, Mr. Gbotoe was hasten to mention that investigations are ongoing due to some irregularities, exams fraud among others as such, the number of performance following the climax of the investigation might increase of decrease as such, they were not able to single out highest performing schools or candidates respectively.
However, he emphasized that following the completion of the various investigations, WAEC will have an appreciation program for outstanding students which will serve as a motivation for other students to follow suit.
Speaking about irregularities involving entire school, Mr. Gbotoe put the number at 1,048 for WASSCE category at the same time 1,944 constituting 3.75% were also caught in irregularities for individual candidates as their results have been withheld pending outcome of the investigation.
The WAEC boss named some of the irregularities as candidates caught with cellphones, foreign materials, impersonation , insults and assaults on examination workers among others.
Releasing summary results for Liberia National assessment test (3rd grade) which started on May 2, 2025, Mr. Gbotoe said 31,690 sat with 26, 160 passed (82.55%) while 5,530 (17.45%) failed.
From the Liberia Primary School Certificate Exams (6th grade) which began on April 30, 2025, saw 46,742 who sat with 40, 600 (86.86%) passed while 6,142(13.14%) failed.
And at the level of the Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination, (9th grade) 49,430 sat the exams with 43,006 (87.00%) passed while 6,424(13.00%) failed.
Mr. Gbotoe who commended the Government of Liberia for fulfilling its commitment to the payment of the WASSCE fees for all 12th graders also highlighted some challenges to include; the delay in candidates registration, walk in candidates, examination fraud and the refusal of some candidates to use the metal detectors provided by WAEC Liberia office among others.
Meanwhile as a means of avoiding late registration, Mr. Gbotoe announced that registration for the 2026 WASSCE exams will begin on September 29, 2025 and end on December 31, 2025 respectively. By: Julius Konton
